KAALO.101

Kathmandu survived multiple catastrophes over the past decades, and reminders of the damages are written along its urban landscape. Necessity drives the competing evolution of the city's architecture and infrastructure. There in the Patan neighborhood, creatives gather. And in a chill and lively square, passing a small secluded building courtyard, is one base of operation.

Kaalo.101 hosts art communities, galleries, workshops, studio space and art residency. Working with a collective of urban artists, carefully feeling the vibe of the area, melding with its the many styles, moods and history and cultural traditions, paint the expressions of this quarter.

They exercise responsible art, first coming to an understanding with the local residence to contemplate what is needed for a place. So create harmonious art that belong to and represent as much as they can the community, joining in a symbiotic evolution with Patan.

Uncivilian met with Kaalo.101 and within 1 hour, decided to collaborate on a co-living experiment. Acquiring an old building in the quarter, to be converted into studios and living space.

Featuring local and foreign talents; with a combination of skills in sculpting, painting, urban art, rapping/word crafting, performance, photography among other handy abilities, together making it a home of their own creations and communal philosophies.
